No Rainbow Coalition in Imo, Uzodimma Warns APC Members Ahead of 2027
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has warned members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state against working with political coalitions outside the party, declaring that there is no rainbow coalition in Imo.
Uzodimma issued the warning on Tuesday in Owerri during the inauguration of the Imo State chapter of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, a political group mobilising grassroots support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The governor threatened to withdraw vehicles provided to campaigners who violated the directive, insisting that members of the movement must work within the APC to advance Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“The PBAT door-to-door officers and coordinators, listen to me. You are members of APC. If I see you work outside APC, I will collect the vehicle from you,” he said.
“You are here; you are empowered to work for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and All Progressives Congress. There is no rainbow coalition in Imo State.”
Uzodimma pledged his administration’s support for the movement, expressing confidence that Tinubu deserved another term in office to consolidate his administration’s reforms.
“We will work with you. We will do the work. We will re-elect the president,” the governor said.
He described the movement as a platform for taking the policies and achievements of the Federal Government directly to Nigerians at the grassroots, adding that the initiative would strengthen public engagement ahead of the 2027 general election.
Uzodimma, who chairs the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), also thanked the movement’s founder, Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, for supporting the initiative and establishing its Imo chapter.
Earlier, the national coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, Sunday Adekanmbi, presented 30 vehicles to support the group’s mobilisation activities across the state.
Adekanmbi said the vehicles were provided at Tompolo’s instance to strengthen the movement’s efforts to secure grassroots support for Tinubu’s re-election.
“We have come with vehicles and other resources. These vehicles you have seen, there are 30 of them. We brought them to Imo State to support you in your cause to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said.
He urged members of the newly inaugurated chapter to cooperate with the state APC leadership, participate actively in campaign activities and mobilise residents to support the president.
The Imo APC chairman, Austin Onyedebelu, said the party would intensify its grassroots campaign through door-to-door engagement.
According to him, the strategy would enable party representatives to explain government policies, interact with residents in their homes and marketplaces, and listen to their concerns.
The governor’s warning comes amid political discussions surrounding the rainbow coalition associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has said the movement represents a departure from conventional party politics.
Wike, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said in January that the coalition was focused on advancing its interests and aligning them with those of Tinubu.
However, the Progressive Governors Forum, under Uzodimma’s leadership, has maintained that it would not support alliances or political arrangements capable of undermining Tinubu’s re-election bid or the APC’s candidates in the 2027 elections.
