Troops have rescued a 25-year-old woman and her two children during a perimeter clearance patrol around Amuda Bridge in Borno State.

The victims' rescue was reported by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication.

The woman, identified as Rukaya Mohammed, was rescued alongside her six-year-old daughter, Hauwa Mustapha, and four-year-old Fati Mustapha.

Preliminary interrogation reportedly revealed that Rukaya was abducted in 2017 from Vartalaka and subsequently forced into a child marriage in Chinene, where she lived with her husband in Wunje community.

According to the report, Rukaya told the troops that disagreements among members of the terrorist group created an opportunity for her and her children to escape after some of the fighters abandoned their camp.

The rescued woman and her children have since been handed over to relevant authorities for necessary assistance and further action.

The latest rescue adds to a series of operations in which troops have freed victims held captive by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

In July, troops rescued a 20-year-old woman, identified as Ummi Umar, who had reportedly been abducted by Boko Haram during the 2021 farming season.

Umar was rescued during a routine patrol around the Amuda Bridge area in Gwoza Local Government Area on July 29.

Zagazola Makama, citing security sources, reported that troops found her wandering around the area and immediately took her into protective custody.

During questioning, Umar reportedly disclosed that Boko Haram fighters abducted her in 2021 and took her to the Suyaka terrorist camp in Gava 1, where she remained in captivity for about five years before escaping.
