The New Nigeria People's Party, NNPP’s Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, has terminated Senator Kabiru Gaya's run at the national assembly with a huge win in the last Saturday’s election.
Sumaila upstaged the Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC, to represent Kano South, with a wide margin from the final results released by INEC on Monday morning.
Gaya, a former Governor of the State and a ranking member of the national Assembly was elected 4 times to the Red chamber between 2007 to 2023.
The result declared by the Returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof Ibrahim Barde showed that Kawu Sumaila's NNPP polled 319, 857 votes to defeat the former governor whose APC scored 192, 518 votes to place a distant second.
In a related development, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Donatus Mathew of the Labour Party (LP) as the winner of Saturday’s election for the Kaura federal constituency seat in Kaduna state.

Mathew polled 10, 508 votes to defeat Gideon Gwani of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP who got 10, 297 votes.
Gwani, who presently represents the constituency at the national assembly, was seeking fifth term in the House.
The PDP candidate is the current minority whip of the House of Representatives, his deputy, Segun Adekoya, representing Ijebu North East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency area of Ogun state, also lost his bid to return to the House.
