#NigeriaDecides2023: Buhari loses Katsina to Atiku

President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to win his home state of Katsina for the presidential candidate of his party, Asiwaju Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The People's Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar defeated Tinubu as he was declared winner of the Saturday’s presidential election in the state.

Atiku who got 489, 045 votes defeated Tinubu who came second with 482, 283 votes.

Professor Muazu Abubakar Gusau, the state returning officer for the presidential election announced the results in early hours Monday at the INEC headquarters in Katsina.

According to him, a total of 3,516,719 voters were registered, while 1,097,663 voters were accredited.

Giving the breakdown, Gusau said the PDP polled 489,045 votes, APC 482,283 votes to come second, while the NNPP got 69,386 votes.

The returning officer also disclosed that votes were cancelled in some parts of the state due to over voting, violence, thuggery and insecurity.

The affected areas are, Baure (One polling unit); Danmusa (Two polling units); Daura (One polling unit); Dutsinma (One polling unit); Funtua (Three polling units); Kafur (Twelve polling units); Kankara (One polling unit); Katsina (Seven polling units); Kurfi (One polling unit) and Kusada (One polling unit).

Others were Maiadua (One polling unit); Malumfashi (Ten polling units); Mashi (Ten polling units); Sabuwa (One polling unit) and Safana (Ten polling units).

Gusau gave the total numbers of registered voters whose elections were cancelled because of the earlier reasons stated at 51,310.
