The Executive Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has directed one of its subcommittees “within the next five days” to recommend a new coaching staff for the Super Eagles.
This mandate is one of the decisions made by the committee at its first formal meeting since Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup billed for Qatar.
The meeting was held on Tuesday in Abuja and was attended both physically and virtually by 14 members. He asked the Development and Technical Subcommittee to make recommendations.
The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that this subcommittee “is responsible for the selection of coaches through its recommendations to the Executive Committee.”
In addition to the expected Super Eagles coaching recommendations, the subcommittee will also recommend new coaching staffs for three other national teams within this same five-day period.
These are the CHAN (Championship of African Nations) team, also known as the Home-based Super Eagles, the U-20 men’s team (Flying Eagles), and the U-17 men’s team (Golden Eaglets).
“This is to ensure that preparations for their upcoming qualifying tournaments and championships begin in earnest,” the NFF stated in the statement.
NAN reports that the Technical and Development Subcommittee works with members of the NFF Technical Department.
Currently, the department is led by former Super Eagles technical advisor Augustine Eguavoen, who is the technical director of the federation.
