- Demands resignation of management team

The National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Ogun Axis, has accused the management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta of milking the students of the Institution through school fee increments and introduction of exorbitant charges.

The Association, in a press statement made available to HorizonTimes and signed by its Chairman and the Public Relations Officer, Damilola Kehinde and Olufemi Owoeye respectively, demanded the resignation of the management if it can no longer manage the affairs of the Institution.

The Association accused the management of casualization of workers and refusal to pay the casual workers for months, adding that funds generated were been diverted for private use of the Rector and his associates.

“The crisis the Dr Adeoye Odedeji led management is leading Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) to requires public attention.

“The management has decided to milk the sponsors of the MAPOLY students dry through numerous school fee increments and introduction of exorbitant charges.

“These levies unfortunately are diverted and misappropriated by the management of the school without considering the austerity the students and their sponsors are subjected to.

“It is sad that despite our diplomatic approach to the matters arising, the management have disregarded every effort to bring them into reversing these policies.

“We are quite aware of how the casual workers in the institution are working without salary for months. Revenue generated from the exorbitant levies are diverted for private use of the Rector and his associates.

“What then is the justification for the increment in fees? We are aware also that the Rector was released on bail from anti-fraud office in Lagos for financial misappropriation reasons. This is just few weeks after he was confirmed the substantive Rector.

“Yet dishonesty, increment of fees and disregard for students’ concern is his achievement so far. Should we remind the management that barely few months ago the tuition fee was increase?

“If asked for the justifications of these policies, the excuse given is that government isn’t funding the institution. Yet there is enough for the management to steal.

“We advise the management team to resign if they can no longer manage the school without making life unbearable for students.”

HorizonTimes visited the website of the Institution, mapoly.edu.ng, and observed that it recently increased its acceptance fee from N25, 500 to N35, 500 and introduced another registration fee of N20, 000 for its 2022/2023 academic session.

A student who also spoke on condition of anonymity explained that the management has continued to increase fees without any explanation.

According to her, an addition N9, 000 was imposed on all new students as part of school fees without any explanation adding that N7, 000 was imposed on some other students.

A twitter user, Hassan Abdulsalam, revealed that the “acceptance fee was increased from N35, 500 to N55, 500 additional N20, 000 tagged registration fee without any explanation on that.”

All efforts to get the reaction of the management to all the allegations were unsuccessful, as the Public Relations Officer of the Institution, Yemi Ajibola, has yet to react to HorizonTimes after several hours of contacting him.
