The Muslim Rights Concern in Ogun State has raised the alarm over what it tagged unbearable and incessant noise pollution and abuse of fundamental human rights perpetrated by religious bodies in the state.

The group in a statement signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Alhaji Tajudeen Jimoh and Olaleye AbdulRasheed, respectively, said the effects of the noises affect mental well-being of the people.

According to it, people who have worked all over the day deserve their rest and not sleepless night due to the deliberate noise pollution in the name of religious rite.

The message reads, "We express our concern about the incessant noise pollution caused by the use of public address systems from churches and mosques during late-night vigils.

“We understand the importance of religious observance, but we believe that the excessive noise generated by these public address systems is disruptive to the peace and quiet of our community, and it is becoming a serious problem.

“The noise generated by these public address systems is often unbearable, and it disturbs our sleep patterns, making it difficult for us to function properly during the day.

“We have also noticed that the noise from these public address systems often exceed the permissible limits set by the government, and this is a clear violation of noise pollution regulations.

“We appreciate the efforts of the government and local security officers to maintain peace and order in our community, but we believe that more needs to be done to address this issue.”

MURIC request the government and security officers in the State to take urgent measure to keep the religious houses in check, adding that this can be achieved by enforcing the existing regulations.

“We respectfully request that the government and security officers take urgent measures to ensure that the noise generated by these public address systems is kept at an acceptable level.

“This can be achieved by enforcing the existing noise pollution regulations, and by monitoring the use of public address systems during late-night vigils.

“We understand that religious observance is an important part of our community, but we believe that it should not come at the cost of our health and well-being.”
