Abeokuta Zone of Neo-Black Movement has claimed that the murdered Sorunke Akinwale popularly called Matasacker was a member of the organization, a staunch supporter of Governor Dapo Abiodun and not a cultist.

The organization in a statement signed by Kayode Odunewu, the President of the zone, said Matasacker was a dedicated member of All Progressives Congress, APC Youth League and worked with the Special Assistant to Governor Abiodun on youth and sports, Olamide Lawal.

Matasacker was murdered last Sunday in Abeokuta, by yet to be identified gunmen at a popular bar while coming from a naming ceremony at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, OOPL.

The group, while commiserating with the family of the late Akinwale implored the security operatives to investigate the killing with view to bringing the perpetrators to book.

The statement said, “The attention of the Neo Black Movement of Africa, Abeokuta Zone has been drawn to the renewed unrest in the Ogun State capital. We have also noted the malicious, defamatory publications and rumours about the circumstances surrounding the gruesome assassination of one of our members, Mr. Sorunke Akinwale, a staunch supporter of Prince Dapo Abiodun, the Executive Governor of Ogun State.

“Akinwale Sorunke was the founder of Matasacker Children's Foundation based on his passion for kids. He was also a dedicated member of the APC YOUTH LEAGUE and working with the SA to the Governor on Youth and Sports, contrary to some reports tagging the late Sorunke Akinwale as a cultist.

“As a law-abiding organization, we are calling on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death in what looks like a political assassination, so as to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to book.”

While calling on youths to shun cultism, the Movement also urged the security operatives to investigate top government officials and aspirants in the State, who the organization said, were financing the perpetrators of the political killings.

“It is on record that on 27th March 2022, NBM of Africa, Abeokuta Zone came out to condemn renewed unrest ravaging the state capital, while commending the proactiveness of security agents which led to some arrests.

“We are further charging the government and security agents to do more, while equally advising our youths to stay off cultism and other social vices capable of truncating the peaceful and harmonious atmosphere being experienced in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

“As an intellectual, patriotic and Pan African organization, NBM Of Africa is urging security agents to investigate some top-ranking people in government and political aspirants financing perpetrators of this unrest for political gain and interest.”

It however distanced itself from the recent unrest in the state capital, adding that its members are law abiding.
