MAPOLY appoints first alumnus, Arc. Jolaoso as Rector

The governing Council of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic has appointed an alumnus of the Polytechnic, Architect (Dr) Adekoyejo Babatunde Jolaoso as the substantive Rector of the Polytechnic.

Dr Jolaoso is the first graduate of the Polytechnic to be so appointed into the number one seat of the Polytechnic in its almost 45 years history.

Dr Jolaoso's appointment followed a rigorous screening by the Council, recommendation to the Ogun State government and the final approval of the recommendations by the State government.

The appointment, which takes effect from Friday, 6th December, 2024 was conveyed vide a letter Ref. No. MOEST/HSC.1/6 dated 3rd December, 2024 from the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology.

The new Rector was presented with his letter of appointment signed by the Chairman of the Council, Emeritus Professor Kamaldeen Balogun on Wednesday.

“I am pleased to inform you that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr) Dapo Abiodun on the recommendation of the Governing Council has approved your appointment as the substantive Rector of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta with effect from Friday, 6th December, 2024vide a letter Ref. No. MOEST/HSC.1/6 dated 3rd December, 2024 from the Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology for a non-renewable single term of five (5) years,” the appointment dated 4th December, 2024.

Arc. Jolaoso had his primary education at St. Bernadette’s Private School, Onikolobo, Abeokuta and later at Egba Comprehensive High School, Asero, Abeokuta.

He later proceeded to Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta where he obtained National Diploma (1985) and Higher National Diploma (1988).

He went to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree (1988) as well as Masters Degree (1994) and later to Federal University of Technology, Akure for another master’s degree in Architecture (2012) and doctoral programme.

He joined the services of the Polytechnic in September 1994 as Lecturer III and rose to become Chief Lecturer.

Prior to his elevation to the position of Director of School of Environmental Studies, he was the Coordinator and later Head of Architecture Department (April 2002 to June 2006). 

He had been a member of Ad’ Hoc and Statutory committees of the Polytechnic at various times.

He has over twenty (20) academic publications (national and international) to his credit. He was editor and now chairman & editor-in-chief of the Polytechnic Academic Journal (THE POLYMATH).
