President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently meeting with the 36 Governors of the Federation over the recent upsurge in the price of goods which has caused food crisis in the country.

The meeting is the second time Tinubu is meeting with the state executives since he inaugurated the National Economic Council on June 15, 2023.

It follows the recent hike in food prices, economic hardship and pockets of insecurity recorded nationwide.

Some security Chiefs and the Minister of Federal Capital Teritory, Nyesom Wike, are also at the meeting.

Recall that there has been an increase in inflationary trend especially since President Tinubu took over the power.

Tinubu had on May 29th , 2023 while assuming power as President announced that, "subsidy is gone", a development that elicited hardship and high cost of living.

There had also been cases of street protest in some parts of the country as a result of what Nigerians termed unbearable hardship.

Although, President Tinubu has directed his economic team including all relevant officials in the government to find a way to ameliorating the situation, the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency have been given approval to make available about 102,000 metric tons of assorted items including rice, maize, millet among others.

The ongoing emergency meeting is expected to come out with some solutions on how to mitigate the rising cost of food items, insecurity and other economic issues.
