Just In: Taiwo Hassan ‘Ogogo’ Dies at 66 After Cancer Battle
Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling cancer.
The actor reportedly died on Sunday following his prolonged struggle with the illness.
His daughter, Kira Taiwo, announced his death in an emotional video circulating on social media, where she was seen in tears repeatedly saying, “My daddy is dead.”
The development came days after Kira and her sister, Haleemah, disclosed that their father had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and appealed for public support as the family explored treatment options.
Following the disclosure, hundreds of Nigerians, colleagues and well-wishers reportedly offered medical, financial, spiritual and other forms of assistance to the veteran actor.
Ogogo’s close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, had said more than 300 people, and possibly over 500, contacted the family with offers of assistance.
Quadri, in a statement shared on Instagram, said the volume of offers had become overwhelming for the family, particularly as they tried to determine which interventions could be pursued without interfering with Ogogo’s ongoing treatment.
However, shortly before his death was announced, Kira alleged that some individuals were attempting to exploit her father’s illness for financial gain.
During an emotional TikTok live session on Saturday, she accused some people claiming to offer assistance to the family of making financial demands while her father was battling the disease.
Ogogo was one of the prominent figures in Yoruba-language Nollywood, with a career spanning several decades and numerous memorable roles on stage and screen.
