Ogun State Police Command, Monday, arrested another escapee from the Kuje Correctional Center, Yakubu AbdulMumuni, who escaped from the facility after it came under attack from suspected terrorists, has been arrested in Ogun State.

A statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested in Sango Ota following a tipoff.

Oyeyemi said an information was received by the policemen at the Divisional Police Headquarters that the 28 year old was sighted at Sango Ota, adding that the DPO, Saleh Dahitu immediately dispatched his men to the point where the convict was apprehended.

The PPRO said the convict, upon interrogation confessed to have escaped from the facility when it was attacked.

He was also reported to have revealed to have been convicted by a Kogi State High Court for conspiracy and culpable homicide, before he was sent to Kuje.

The statement read, "One of the Kuje Correctional Center escapees was on Monday 11th of July 2022 arrested by operatives of Ogun state Police Command.

"The escapee, 28year old Yakubu AbdulMumuni was arrested following an information received by policemen at Sango ota divisional headquarters that, the convict was sighted somewhere around Sango Ota.

"Upon the information, the DPO Sango ota division, SP Saleh Dahiru quickly mobilised his men and moved to the area where the convict was apprehended.

"He confessed to the Police that he escaped from Kuje Correctional Center on the 5th of July 2022, when the Center was attacked by bandits.

"He stated further that he was convicted by Kogi state High Court for offence of Conspiracy and culpable Homicide and sent to Kuje Correctional Center."

According to the statement, the State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to facilitate the transfer of the convict to Correctional Center with immediate effect.
