The National Judicial Council, NJC, has recommended the Chairman of the 2023 Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, Justice Haruna Tsammani and 10 others as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The decision was reached at the 104 meeting of the Council held on Wednesday during which a list of candidates presented by its Interview Committee was considered.
The other Justices who are on the verge of becoming members of the apex court's bench are; Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, OFR; Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa; Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme; Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein; and Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya.
Others are Justice Stephen Jonah Adah; Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru; Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur; Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar; and Justice Mohammed Baba Idris.
A statement by Soji Oye Esq. Director of Information, NJC, disclosed that the body also recommended one Justice of Court of Appeal, 6 Heads of Courts and 26 other Judicial Officers for appointments as Heads of Courts and other Judicial Officers for the Federal and State Courts in Nigeria.
All the recommended candidates to the Supreme Court Bench would be sworn-in after the approval of their recommendation by President Bola Tinubu, and the subsequent confirmation of their appointment by the Senate.
The various Heads of Court recommended would also be sworn-in upon the approval of their appointment by their various State Governors and subsequent confirmation of same by their respective State Houses of Assembly.
