A businessman, Asue Ighodalo, Thursday, was declared the winner of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary election, which took place in Benin City in Edo State.
Ighodalo defeated about nine other candidates including the Deputy Governor of the state, Shaibu Phillip, in the election.
He polled a total vote of 577 votes to become the candidate of the PDP in the September 21 governorship election in the state.
The Chairman of the Edo PDP Primary Electoral Committee and Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State declared him as the winner of the exercise.Philip Shaibu Declares Self Winner Of Edo PDP Parallel Primary.
Meanwhile, the deputy governor, has declared himself as winner of a parallel governorship primary election of the party.
The parallel governorship primary which was reportedly held at the deputy governor's residence in Benin City, the state capital was said to have been concluded while the primary being conducted by the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium was in progress.
They gave the name of the returning officer as Bartholomew Moses, who announced Shaibu as the winner of the primary election, declaring that the Edo deputy governor won the exercise with over 300 votes.
Some party delegates who arrived at the lawn tennis court of the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin City, were reportedly denied access.
The delegates subsequently moved to Shaibu’s residence where the said parallel election was held.
