Operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, in Ogun State, have reportedly detained Ladi Adebutu, the governosrship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the last general election in the State.
Adebutu was reportedly arrested in respect of last Saturday’s local government election in Ogun State.
Adebutu was accused of bringing ‘illegal’ mobile police officers to the State on the day of the election.
But a source familiar with the case explained that the mobile officers were attached to Adebutu from Mopol 49 base in Lagos.
Trouble started when the mobile police officers reportedly had fire exchange with other security operatives monitoring the election.
A member of APC was allegedly hit in the process.
A video has gone viral where armed police officers with Armoured Personnel Career were seen stationed in front of Adebutu’s house on the day of the election.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson to Adebutu, Afolabi Orekoya, proved unsuccessful, as all calls put across to his mobile line rang out.
Adebutu was billed to appear on a radio programme on Monday in Abeokuta, he couldn’t honour the invitation as he was expected throughout the programme.
Meanwhile, in a short message circulated by the Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP, Akinloye Bankole, Adebutu was invited by the DSS earlier in the afternoon and honoured the invitation.
Akinloye said he honoured the invitation in the company of Yomi Tella, the party chairman in the State, 'and a few party chiefs.'
