A Kano State High Court has ordered the State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, to evict the deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero from the mini palace of the Emir being occupied by the former Emir.

The court also ordered the former Amir, alongside four other Emirs of Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye; Nasiru Ado Bayero, Ibrahim Abubakar II, Kabiru Muhammadu Inuwa. Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya, to stop parading themselves as Emirs.

Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu, in a motion exparte dated 27th May, 2024, brought before it by the State Attorney General, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and the Kano State House of Assembly, also ordered the Commissioner of Police to take over the palace.

In the suit marked, K/1000/2024, Justice Aliyu also ordered that the defendants should stop parading themselves as Emirs ‘in the interest of peace in Kano pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.’

The court also ordered all the former Emirs be swerved through the office of the Commissioner of police who is also ordered to ensure immediate implementation of the order of the court in the interest of jusctice.

The motion on notice dated 24th of May, 2024is adjourned to 11th of June for hearing.

The newly appointed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II and the deposed Emir, Bayero have continued to lay claim to the throne.

While Sanusi II formerly assumed duty at the main palace, the deposed Emir Bayero occupies the royal house in Nasarawa, another part of Kano city.

On Thursday, the state governor, Abba Yusuf, assented to the Kano State Emirates Council (Amendment Number 2) Law, 2024.

The amended law abolished the establishment of the five emirate councils of Kano, Bichi, Rano, Karaye and Gaya in the state.

Meanwhile, Bayero reportedly landed at the Aminu Kano International Airport on Saturday at 4:30 am and was greeted by supporters. He proceeded to occupy the Nasarawa palace with full detachment of security operatives.

The Kano State Police Command said it will enforce the court order restraining the state government from dissolving the five emirates in the state.

Justice Mohammed Liman of a Federal High Court in Kano had issued an order stopping the Kano State Government from enforcing the Kano State Emirate Council Repeal Law.

Justice Liman granted the order in an application by one Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, the Sarkin Dawaki Babba of the Kano Emirate, who claimed that his fundamental right was bridged by the law
