The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has reportedly resigned his position as leader of the ruling party, according to a report by Prime Business Africa.

The National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore is also said to be following suit.

Adamu has been facing many battles since party won the February 25, 2023 presidential election, the outcome of which is now being contested by major opposition parties and their candidates led by Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Prime Business Africa quoted impeccable sources "within the ruling party and the Presidency who would not want to be named confirmed to Prime Business Africa on Sunday night that Adamu resigned a few minutes ago on the orders of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu."

The reasons for the reported resignation is still very sketchy as at the time of filling this report, some prominent party leaders have called for the resignation of the Party chairman.

Members of the National Working Committee of the Party have also been on collision course with the chairman on the management of the Party.

The Chairman, about a week ago, ran into murky water when he disapproved the principals officers announced by both arms of the national assembly.

It was gathered that why both the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives did not carry Adamu along, they got the nod of President Bola Tinubu to announce the principal officers.

Adamu's disapproval which was later rejected by members of the NWC, was considered an affront and defiance to Tinubu's order.

Adamu has also offended President Tinubu's block of the APC since the time of the party's primary when he announced the former Senate President Ahmed Lawan as the consensus candidate of the APC.

There were indication that the embattled chairman might be forced to resign during an NWC meeting preceeding the caucus and NEC meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
