Both President Bola Tinubu and Kwara State Government have confirmed the rescue of all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara state.

38 worshippers, on Tuesday, were abducted when bandits attacked a branch of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) at Oke Isegun in the Eruku community, a boundary town with Kogi in the Ekiti LGA of Kwara state.

A video of the attack, captured during a live stream shows the worshippers conducting a service when sporadic gunshots were heard from around the church premises.

The congregation, led by a young pastor, scampered for safety as the gunshots intensified, after which some bandits were seen entering the church. The attack reportedly happened at about 6pm.

In a statement posted on X, on Sunday, Tinubu said he is closely monitoring the security situation nationwide, adding that the country and its people will be protected under his watch.

The president further said 51 abducted pupils in Niger state have also been recovered.

“My fellow Nigerians, you will recall that I cancelled my trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to enable me coordinate the security efforts at home,” Tinubu said.

”Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State have been rescued.

“I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State, have been recovered.

“I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline.

“Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety, and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people.”

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Rafiu Ajakaye, the State government also confirmed the freedom of the abducted worshipers.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said the worshippers were freed on Sunday.
