Two journalists were amongst people injured when suspected thugs disrupted the campaign train of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State on Monday.
The state correspondents for Leadership Newspaper, Joshua Dada and his colleagues from News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Victor Adeoti sustained injuries while their bus was attacked by the hired thugs.
The incident occurred at Arapajo area, Gbongan in Ayedaade Local Government Area of the state around 5:30pm when the thugs claiming to be members of the opposition party directed vehicles to leave the town.
The journalists narrowly escaped death by whiskers as glass of their vehicle was smashed and entered into the eyes of two of them while others ran out of the bus for safety.
The thugs were allegedly led by one Yinka, a Tailor, who had insisted that vehicles should not park in the Arapajo area.
Oyetola had gone to Ode-Omu and Orile-Owu before returning to Gbongan where the incident happened.
The thugs who had gone to lay siege to the vehicles attacked the journalists and destroyed their vehicle along with three other vehicles.
The side screen of the vehicle was destroyed by a big stick however sprayed into peoples' eyes and injured the Journalists.
The thugs were allegedly armed with cutlasses, axes, clubs and dangerous weapons.
The injured reporters were immediately driven to the government house clinic for treatment by the State Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Funke Egbemode.
