Candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will now pay N4,000 only once to verify their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) O’Level results, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have clarified.

The clarification was contained in a joint statement issued by the two examination bodies on Tuesday following consultations over the recently introduced system for remote uploading and verification of O’Level results.

Under the arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated by JAMB are required to verify their WAEC results once through the Board’s platform.

The verified result will subsequently be made available to the tertiary institution where the candidate is seeking admission.

JAMB and WAEC stressed that candidates will not be required to pay another verification fee to their chosen institutions.

“Candidates are to pay ₦4,000 only, once, for the verification of their WASSCE O’ Level results on the specified platform and not through their desired institutions,” the statement said.

The bodies directed tertiary institutions to use the verified results transmitted by JAMB for admission screening, processing and other administrative purposes.

“Candidates shall not be required to pay for another verification,” they added.

The clarification followed JAMB’s recent introduction of a system that allows candidates to upload and verify their O’Level results from home or any internet-enabled location, eliminating routine visits to JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres solely for the exercise.

JAMB had said the initiative initially commenced with WAEC results and was designed to enable it to verify candidates’ academic records directly with examination bodies.

WAEC has now authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification with relevant tertiary institutions for admission and related administrative purposes.

The two agencies said the arrangement was designed to prevent candidates from undergoing multiple verification exercises after completing the process through JAMB.

They added that it would reduce the financial and logistical burden associated with repeated verification.

“Candidates who have successfully verified their WASSCE O’ Level result through the Verification Service platform will not be required to repeat the same verification exercise,” the statement said.

The agencies urged candidates to complete the verification through the designated JAMB platform and retain their verification information for the admission process.

They said the collaboration would also strengthen the integrity of academic records and reduce opportunities for the presentation of fake or altered certificates.

The development comes as thousands of candidates navigate the 2026/2027 tertiary admission process, with O’Level results remaining a key requirement for admission screening and eligibility.

JAMB and WAEC said the collaboration demonstrated their commitment to reducing unnecessary costs, simplifying the admission process and safeguarding the integrity of candidates’ academic records.

In effect, the ₦4,000 charge is a one-time verification fee, not an annual or institution-by-institution payment.
