The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of campaigns for the forthcoming Ondo South Senatorial District by-election.

The Commission urged political parties and candidates to strictly adhere to electoral regulations.

In a press release issued on Wednesday signed by the Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, Olayinka Ogunseye in Akure, INEC stated that the official campaign period commenced on June 10 and will end on June 18, 2026.

The electoral body reminded political parties, candidates and their supporters that all campaign activities must be conducted in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

It warned that no form of campaigning would be permitted beyond the stipulated closing date.

INEC further emphasized the need for peaceful and issue-based campaigns, cautioning against hate speech, defamation, violence, abusive language and any conduct capable of undermining the credibility and peaceful conduct of the electoral process.

The Commission stressed that all participants in the electoral contest must comply with the Electoral Act and other relevant laws, adding that violations of the regulations would attract appropriate sanctions.

The by-election holds on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with political parties now formally cleared to canvass support from voters within the approved campaign window.
