Akpabio was reportedly visited in London by a former governor of Ogun State and a Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the Na6ional Assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
Daniel had reportedly stopped over in London to personally inform Akpabio of his intention to return to Nigeria for the August 16 bye-election in the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency.
The seat became vacant following the death of a former Deputy Whip of the House of Representatives, Adewumi Onanuga.
According to a statement on Monday by Jackson Udom, Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Daniel told the Senate President, “Your Excellency, the news out there is that you have been indisposed, but seeing you here now paints a very different picture. Congratulations, Your Excellency.”
Akpabio thanked Daniel for the visit and expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress would retain the constituency seat.
“With the commitments and support of Governor Dapo Abiodun, your good self, and other stakeholders of our party in the state, we will retain the House of Representatives seat at the end of the election,” he said.
He further commended Daniel’s political influence in the area, adding, “Let me congratulate you in advance, because you have all it takes to retain that federal constituency seat for our great party.”
On speculation about his health, Akpabio remarked, “If you listen to the social media, you will go to war.”
