Contrary to report from a section of the media, the Medical Director, Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta, Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu has washed his hands off the indefinite suspension of the Director of Administration, Mr. A.O Vaughan and his deputy, Mr. D.F Akaraiwe, saying the two officers burnt their fingers.

The MD further explained that both members of management team of the hospital were suspended by the Federal Ministry of Health following an alleged misconduct.

Addressing a large crowd of the hospital staff at the Telemedicine hall of the Center, the Medical Director said contrary to the insinuations in some quarters, the Ministry of Health and not him placed the two officers on indefinite suspension.

The Medical Director said the Ministry's action was in response to an allegations of Breach of Trust and Unauthorized Disclosure of Information allegedly committed by the two directors which was a violation of the Public Service Rules (PSR) no 030402, section 4 under offences regarded as Serious Misconduct.

Prof Musa-Olomu recalled how the two officers had allegedly released some vital official documents to the legal representation of a Non- Governmental Organization (NGO), All Youths Re-Oriented Initiative of Nigeria ( AYRION), which was used to institute legal action against the Minister of Health, the Ministry and himself.

The documents allegedly bore the official stamp of the office of the Director of Administration and the signature of his deputy without authorization.

The documents were part of the evidences required to pursue a litigation instituted by the NGO.

According to the Medical Director, when confronted at an Hospital Management Committee meeting, none of the two suspended officers neither denied knowledge of the usage of the hospital official stamp nor the signature.

"The position of the Ministry on this matter was that all the documents so released through the back doors were the properties of the Ministry and as such no staff has any right to make them public without due authorization.

"I was made to understand that even as the Chief Executive Officer of this Centre, I do not have such a right," the Medical Director explained.

It will be recalled that some officers of the Center have battled the MD to prevent his return for second term in office. The Ministry was however sued after the MD was given a clean bill of health and returned for second term.

Musa-Olomu recalled how well-meaning Nigerians including traditional rulers has to intervene in the imbroglio but that all appeals fell on the deaf hears of the officers.

He went down the memory lane on several peace initiatives and personal sacrificial steps he made in order for peace to reign.

"We went to His Royal Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, we visited the Deputy Minority Chief Whip, House of Representatives, Hon. Majeed Adesegun Adekoya at his Sagamu residence, and Dr. Ade Abolunrin, the former Commandant General of Civil Defense.  Together with the suspended D.A, we were in baba's house from around 5pm to past 11.pm where we all resolved to forget the events of the past and move forward."

The Medical Director informed the meeting that the Ministry had taken over the issue and a three - man team from the office of Appointment, Promotion and Discipline dispatched to the Centre had, last Tuesday, ratified the suspension of the two directors.

The Medical Director pleaded with the staff to refrain from acts that are detrimental to the growth of the Centre and that could also tarnish their image.

He reiterated his commitment to the promotion of staff welfare, fairness, unity and overall development of the Centre.

Prof Musa-Olomu said he decided to lay all the cards on the table for everybody to see saying "I am not after anybody's downfall.

Members of staff and Union leader who spoke at the meeting saluted the rare patience and humility of the Medical Director while they pledged the entire staff continual support for the present administration in the Centre.
