The Chief Imam of White House Central Mosque, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, Imam AbdRazaq Ajibade, has said that Islam is never a threat to anybody or any society, but rather a religion that solves all facets of problems.

The cleric, during his Jumat sermon, Friday, while apparently reacting to the protest of a Lagos-based lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo, who went to the supreme Court in an attire depicting a traditional religion adherent, said Islam is not in competition with anybody.

Omirhobo was protesting the Supreme Court judgement on the use of hijab by Muslim secondary school students in Lagos State.

Imam Ajibade maintained that Islam is a religion which accommodates all other religions and has been a problem solver in the country rather than being a threat to anybody.

He emphasised that whoever constitutes a threat in any society in the name of Islam is either not a Muslim or doesn't understand what Islam preaches and stands for.

According to him, Muslims have been in the forefront of providing solutions to economic challenges rather than being threats to the society.

He reminded the congregation of the introduction of the Islamic banking which was aimed at solving economic challenges, adding that many of those who criticized the introduction are the greatest beneficiaries.

He also recalled how Sukuk policy was introduced by the Federal Government and how much infrastructural challenges the initiative has been able to solve, despite the initial protest by those claiming islamisation agenda.

The Imam however challenged the Christians in the country to also be in the forefront of providing solutions to the challenges facing the Country instead of always being at the defensive side against the rights and innovations by Muslims.

He added that since the introduction of Islam banking and Sukuk financing in Nigeria, nobody has been islamised.

He said, "Islam allows religious tolerance and Nigerian Muslims have been demonstrating this, anytime there's a problem in the country, the Muslims are always in the forefront, full of ideas.

"When the economy was in comatose, Islamic banking was introduced to solve national issue, Islam is never a threat to anybody, Islam is not in competition with any religion, Islam is after finding solutions to every problem.

"But the noise has been about the alleged islamisation of Nigeria. Jaiz Bank has come to stay, nobody has come out that he has been islamised.

"When the economy was also doing badly recently, the Muslims came up with Sukuk policy, where is your own idea? And let see if Muslims will make noise about christianisation.

"When Sukuk was introduced, the noise was about islamisation, but today, go and look at how many problems Sukuk has been able to solve and nobody has been islamised. In fact, the greatest beneficiaries of the Sukuk are the noise makers.

"We shouldn't play politics with the future of this country, if you have solutions to Nigeria problem, bring it out and people will adopt it."

Imam Ajibade further maintained that contrary to the protest from some quarters, Nigeria is not a secular state, but a multi religious state with believes in God.

According to him, the Country has only not adopted any of the religion as a state religion, but a system where every religion has right to practice without infringing on other religious rights.

"Nigeria is never a secular state, the first page of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria says, ‘We the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, having firmly and solemnly resolve, to live in unity and harmony as one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign nation under God,...'.

"Even the second stanza of the National Anthem started with 'Oh God of creation!', the National Pledge ended with '...so help me God', so, Nigeria is never a secular state but a country with regard for religion and God. It is only that no religion was adopted as a state religion.

"If Nigeria accept God and accommodate all religions, it means every religion has its right and every individual has a right under the constitution to practice his/her religion."

The Cleric bemoaned the protest of Omirhobo over the hijab, saying that he only insulted public intelligence with his display at the Supreme Court.

Unlike Hijab, Imam Ajibade quarried whether the Lawyer has been dressing in that manner before and after the Supreme Court judgement to all occasions.

"It was funny that a lawyer protested against the Supreme Court judgement, I do not have a problem against his protest in as much as he is for human right, but the problem is, he was just insulting public intelligence.

"Why do I say this? Was that how he has been dressing to parties and other public events? Has he ever worn the dress to the court and parties? Has his wife and children ever dressed in that manner? He was just insulting public intelligence. Has he continued to wear the same cloth since that time?

"Hijab was upheld for only willing Muslims students, it is not even compulsory for the unwilling ones. Hijab is a regular wear of a Muslim lady; it has become an identity of Muslims female. It is never a threat to anybody and shouldn't be a headache to anyone.

"Hijab never altered or changed anything in the existing uniforms. When we are not playing politics, hijab is a right that every reasonable Nigerians should stand for."
