Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on the Federal Government to take actions towards alleviating the suffering of the people with emphasis on policies which promote growth and job creation.
Makinde said this on Tuesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, during the protest called by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, across the country.
The protest was sanctioned by the NLC over the hardship and the deteriorating economic situation in the country.
Governor Makinde while addressing the protesters said hardship and poverty have reached alarming levels, with many unable to feed themselves or find work.
He urged all parties to work together to find solutions to the hardship occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal and the high rate of exchange, expressing hope that the situation can be turned around.
"There is hunger and hardship in the land. We must do something about it.''
Governor Makinde noted that the worsening economic situation is not unique to Oyo State, but rather a nationwide issue.
He called on the federal government to take action to alleviate the suffering of the people, emphasizing the need for policies that promote growth and job creation.
