Gunshots as violence disrupts Ado-Odo/Ota APC Reps primary

Violence, Friday, erupted at Alamuwa in Ado-Odo area of Ogun State, the venue of the All Progressives Congress, APC primaries of the Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency in the State.

The violence broke out between the supporters of Tunji Akinosi, the Ogun State Commissioner for forestry, and those of the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, Jimoh Ojugbele.

Both Akinosi and Ojugbele are among the aspirants in the primaries.

Akinosi is believed to have the backing of the Deputy Governor of the State, Engineer Naimot Salako-Oyedele who is from the same local government, while Ojugbele was said to have the backing of majority of the political lelders in the constituency.

Repeated shooting rented the air such that both delegates and party faithful who were at the venue of the primary had to scamper for their safeties.

HorizonTimes gathered from an eye-witness at the venue of the primary that thugs stationed at different locations within the venue of the primaries outnumbered the delegates and other party faithful 'in about three folds'.

Trouble started, the source said, when the presiding officer, Tunji Ibitokun, did not arrive until around 5pm for an exercise which was billed for 2pm.

Ibitokun, it was gathered, did not commence the exercise until the arrival of the Deputy Governor who allegedly sought audience with him immediately she came, on the mode of the process.

Supporters of the other aspirants, especially those of Ojugbele, were not at home with the position of Naimot-Salako who was believed to have a vested interest in Akinosi.

The deputy governor reportedly left this scene following protest from delegates loyal to Ojugbele, she was reportedly followed by Akinosi and all his delegates, after which the delegates loyal to Ojugbele commenced accreditation.

The accreditation was however disrupted by the thugs who invaded the venue and started shooting repeatedly while onlookers and party faithful scamper for safety.

The Source further said that there were reports of some people injured during the process, he was quick to add that he nerve saw anyone injured.

Findings by HorizonTimes revealed that Ojugbele has majority of political leaders in the local government in his support, they were said to have ganged up against the Deputy Governor and Akinosi who had allegedly stepped on their toes using their offices and especially during the last local government elections.

It was gathered that leaders such as Lai Taiwo, Samuel Aiyedogbon, Kazeem Salako, Segun Ojolowo, Yusuf Abiodun (majority leader of Ogun State House of Assembly), amongst others, were rooting for Ojugbele.

Ojugbele was said to have spent a lot of money, running into millions each, to keep the leaders to his side while the delegates, it was also gathered, were said to have received 200,000 and a motorcycle each.

The delegates loyal to Ojugbele, it was also gathered, had been camped at a hotel in Lagos from where they were driven to the venue.

On the part of Akinosi, it was gathered, were the Deputy Governor and her brothers; Kola Salako and Wasiu Lawal and others like Walia Ogunjobi, Muritala Odunlami, amongst others. They were also said to have been camped at a hotel in Ota.

Both camps were claiming to have the support of the Governor to be delivered from amongst about seven aspirants left from the initial seventeen.
