Former governorship candidate and House of Representatives member, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has donated 100 executive chairs to the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
The gesture has been described as a major boost to the welfare and working environment of journalists in the state.
Presenting the chairs, Hon. Isiaka said the gesture was part of his enduring commitment to support the media as a critical partner in entrenching democracy, good governance, and accountability in Nigeria.
He stressed that journalists occupy a central role in nation-building, adding that providing them with a conducive working environment was an investment in the growth and development of society.
“The media remains one of the strongest pillars of our democracy. Journalists are custodians of truth, accountability, and national values. It is important that we continue to support them to do their job effectively,” Isiaka stated.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ogun NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, described the donation as “timely, impactful, and a clear demonstration of GNI’s unwavering support for the Union.”
He explained that the new chairs would significantly improve the comfort and productivity of members while also enhancing the image of the Council.
The NUJ further noted that Isiaka’s contribution reflected his long-standing relationship with the press and his consistent belief in the power of the media to drive positive change.
The Council described the gesture as not only an act of generosity but also a testament to Isiaka’s visionary leadership and people-oriented values.
The NUJ pledged to make judicious use of the chairs and reaffirmed its readiness to uphold the ethics of journalism in discharging its duties to society.
The Union also called on other well-meaning Nigerians and institutions to emulate Isiaka’s example by supporting the press in ways that strengthen its capacity to serve as the watchdog of society.
