The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has attributed a series of fatal road crashes that claimed 32 lives across Kwara, Kogi and Ogun states to excessive speeding, driver fatigue and other traffic violations.

The crashes, which occurred between Sunday and Monday, also left 26 persons injured, according to the Corps.

In Kwara State, no fewer than 15 people lost their lives in a lone trailer crash at Oko Olowo along the Ilorin–Jebba Highway.

The FRSC said preliminary investigations indicated that driver fatigue caused the accident, adding that rescue operations continued amid concerns that additional victims might have been trapped beneath the trailer's load.

In Kogi State, seven persons were killed in a crash involving a commercial bus and a stationary truck along the Okene–Osara–Lokoja Highway.

The Corps attributed the incident to a combination of speeding, driver fatigue and a burst tyre, while several injured victims were evacuated to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Similarly, 10 people died in Ogun State following a collision between a truck and a Toyota Hiace passenger bus on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.

According to the FRSC, excessive speed, wrongful overtaking and dangerous driving were responsible for the crash.

Reacting to the incidents, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

He urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, avoid speeding, ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys, and desist from carrying passengers alongside goods.

The FRSC reiterated that strict adherence to road safety regulations remains essential to reducing the growing number of fatal road traffic crashes across the country.
