Four members of the house of representatives from Bauchi have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the parliament, read the defection notices during plenary on Thursday.

The lawmakers are Muhammed Shehu (Zaki federal constituency), Aliyu Garu (Bauchi federal constituency), Sani Tanko (Shira/Giade federal constituency), and Mansur Soro (Darazo/Ganjuwa federal constituency).

Jeremiah Umaru, lawmaker representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba federal constituency of Nasarawa state, also defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Several lawmakers in the green chamber have switched parties since the start of the year, ahead of the general election.

On Tuesday, eight lawmakers defected from the PDP to the APM.

Three lawmakers also moved from the ruling APC to the PDP and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

On Wednesday, three legislators left the APC to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
