As the former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, appeared before the Senate on Tuesday, an old video of the former FCT Minister has been trending online where he said it is not fair for him to return as minister at his current age.
El-Rufai stated this in an old video of him, in 2022, while discussing with some unidentified people, before his current nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking in Hausa language which was later translated by Daily Trust, the former Gover said a ministerial position is not meant for him alone, saying ‘will they (your children and younger brothers) become ministers?
El-Rufai said he has trained a lot of people who are capable of succeeding him in many areas, adding that it amounts to failure not to have a successor.
He said, “You became a minister at forty-three and after twenty years then you become a minister at sixty-three? What of your children and younger brothers? Will they not become ministers? Is the position meant for you alone? I don’t like this. Let go of this topic.
“Thank God I was lucky that I became Minister of Abuja when I was forty-three-old. Next year I will clock sixty-three. Then I will go back. So, nobody among my younger brothers and children is capable of becoming a minister? You fail when you fail to train those to succeed you. I have trained a lot of people who are capable of succeeding in many areas.”
The former Governor appeared for screening before the Senate on Tuesday where he answered three questions from a former Governor of Zamfara State, AbdulAziz Yari, alone before he was asked to take a bow and go.
A Senator from Kogi State, Sunday Karimi, submitted a petition against the nomination of El-Rufai.
El-Rufai asnwered questions on power generation, transmission and distribution.
