Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who died on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, was buried on Tuesday at the Al-Baqi Cemetery in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
His burial followed the Jana’za (funeral) prayers held after the Maghrib prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque in the Islamic holy city.
The body of the late patriarch arrived in Madinah on Tuesday morning and was accompanied by his son, Alhaji Tajudeen Dantata; his nephew and businessman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote; and other family members.
A delegation from the Federal Government attended the funeral.
According to a statement by Special Assistant (Media) to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Rabiu Ibrahim, the delegation left Nigeria on Sunday and arrived in Madinah early Monday.
The team was led by the Minister of Defence and a former Governor of Jigawa State, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.
Others included the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; and the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Abdullahi Ata.
Also on the delegation was the Director of Internal Security at the Office of the National Security Adviser, Hassan Abdullahi, who represented the NSA.
Some Islamic clerics were also in attendance, including Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, and the Imam of the Dantata Mosque in Abuja, Khalifa Abdullahi Muhammad.
Officials of the Nigerian Consulate General in Jeddah, led by Ambassador Ibrahim Moddibbo, were present, along with Ambassador Muazzam Nayaya and Defence Attaché, Major General Adamu Hassan, who coordinated the funeral.
Also at the burial were the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin; former All Progressives Congress National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje; Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf; and his Jigawa counterpart, Umar Namadi.
Dangote led other family members and associates in paying final respects, while the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and Emir Aminu Ado Bayero were also present at the ceremony.
