The Federal Government has disbursed N38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions across the country under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund to address infrastructure deficits and improve teaching and learning facilities.

Details of the disbursement were contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the Head of the Media Unit of the Federal Ministry of Finance, Efe Ovuakporie.

The statement disclosed that the beneficiaries comprised 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education.

According to the breakdown, universities received a total allocation of N28.5 billion, while polytechnics were allocated N5.8 billion. Colleges of education received N4.7 billion.

The Federal Government said the intervention was part of its efforts to address the needs of public universities and support the implementation of agreed measures under the Memorandum of Understanding between the government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The statement noted that the funds would enable beneficiary institutions to commence or advance approved projects targeting critical infrastructure gaps and other identified institutional needs.

It added that the initiative was aimed at strengthening the quality of tertiary education in Nigeria by improving educational infrastructure and enhancing institutional capacity.

The ministry also emphasised the importance of effective coordination among the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and beneficiary institutions to ensure that public funds translated into tangible improvements in the education sector.
