Exclusive: Uncertainty over Ogun APC primary as aspirants remain in the dark

There is a growing concern of uncertainty over the governorship and House of Assembly primary elections of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ogun state, slated for Thursday.

Except for Governor Dapo Abiodun, other aspirants have remained in the dark as to the mode and process of the governorship and house of assembly primary elections in the state.

HorizonTimes gathered that the majority of the aspirants do not have access to the committee not to talk of having any stakeholders meeting with the committee which has remained invisible even to the media.

One of the governorship aspirants who spoke on condition of anonymity revealed that, as at the morning of the election, majority of them are not even aware of the composition of the committee members not to talk of having interactions with them on the election processes.

The aspirant said, “As I speak with do, I do not even know the composition of the Committee, no invitation has been received to the effect of the primary not to even talk about meeting with the aspirants on the mode and process of the primary.”

Another aspirant who also spoke on the condition of not being named revealed that they waited all through Wednesday expecting invitation for a stakeholders meeting, but was to no avail.

He however said a text message was forwarded to him by someone close to him that the message was copied to him from another source.

The message, a copy of which was made available to this newspaper indicates read, “I write to notify you that the APC Ogun State governorship Primaries Committee has arrived the state. You are therefore requested as an Aspirant to submit to the committee names of your nominee as agent and the phone number(s).

“You are further requested to furnish us with credible means of identification of the said agent nominee. The said agent is to be at the venue of the primaries @ MKO Abiola Stadium Abeokuta by 9am prompt on Thursday May 26, 2022. Accept my sincere regards!”

The message which was signed by one Barrister C.J. Chinwuba, Secretary to the Committee, was received by the source through which the aspirant got the message at 1.05am on the primaries day, Thursday.

When contacted on the phone number through which the message was sent, 08033089277, Chinwuba hung the phone on our reporter after saying, ‘Yes, Barrister Chinwuba speaking’, but when confronted with the questions, he sadi, ‘I am bust at the primaries.”

A document which has gone viral on social media indicated the said Chinwuba as the secretary of the committee with one Hon Wale Ohu as the Chairman of the Committee.

It was also gathered that a first class traditional ruler from Ogun East has started brokering peace between Governor Abiodun and some of the aggrieved aspirants.

As at the time of filling this report, it was also gathered that almost all aspirants have entered the name of their delegates with the Committee, but none of them was seen at the venue of the exercise.

Further information gathered that an underground arrangement was going on on how to share the national assembly and houses of assembly slot to all the power brokers in the State.

When our reporter visited the stadium, delegates were already seen on their seats while the event was already wearing a colourful atmosphere.

Some of the House of Assembly aspirants who spoke with our reporter expressed uncertainty and worry at what is going on.
