The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has again declared former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, wanted over an alleged case of receiving stolen property.

The anti-graft agency made the declaration in a public notice issued on Wednesday and accompanied by Maina’s photograph.

According to the notice, Maina, 61, an indigene of Biu, Borno State, is wanted in connection with an alleged case of “receiving stolen properties.”

The EFCC urged members of the public with useful information about Maina’s whereabouts to contact the commission or the nearest police station and other security agencies.

The commission listed its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt and Abuja as points where information could be provided.

Maina had previously been declared wanted by the EFCC in November 2015 over allegations of procurement fraud, stealing and money laundering linked to the pension biometric programme.

He later became the subject of a prolonged legal battle after the EFCC prosecuted him over alleged money laundering involving funds connected with pension reforms.

In November 2022, the Federal High Court in Abuja convicted Maina and sentenced him to eight years’ imprisonment for money laundering-related offences, while also ordering the forfeiture of assets linked to the case. Maina subsequently appealed the conviction.

However, the EFCC’s latest wanted notice did not disclose whether the new allegation of receiving stolen property is connected to the earlier pension-related case.

The commission also did not provide details of the alleged stolen property or indicate when the alleged offence occurred.

The latest development therefore marks a fresh move by the anti-graft agency to locate Maina as investigations or proceedings relating to the new allegation continue.
