It was yet another tragic scene along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway when an articulated vehicle crushed 21 travelers to death in the early hours of Thursday.
The incident happened when the trailer truck collided with a passenger Humer bus heading for Kano and Batsari town in Katsina state, killing the passengers in the process.
Only three passengers of the hummer bus survived the fatal accident.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, according to a report by Daily Trust, who participated in the rescue operation, said three passengers who survived the accident were rushed to the Umaru Musa memorial hospital in Sabon-Wuse town, for medical attention.
He was quoted to have said that the remains of the victims were deposited at the same hospital’s morgue.
He noted that the accident took place close to a route diversion that forced all motorists from the two opposite directions to drive on single lane.
It was gathered that the driver of the articulated vehicle had fled the scene, leaving behind his vehicle along with another container truck, blocking the ever busy way.
There was report of traffic buildup from two axis of the expressway as at the time of filing this report.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Tafa Division, S.P Idris Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, but said he is in the process of compiling his report to the state command.
