In a bid to alleviate poverty and empower the less privileged in the society, Dawah Front of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Amir Islamic Foundation, has distributed items worth N11.5million to 52 successful beneficiaries during the 2025 Zakaat exercise of DFN.

The event, which took place at the Egba Muslim Central Mosque, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, saw the distribution of various items, including sewing machines, generators, grinding machines, industrial machines, freezers, etc to beneficiaries who were carefully selected from a pool of 85 applicants.

Chairman of the Dawah Front of Nigeria, Zakat Committee, Alhaji Surajudeen Fashola, explained that the organization received 85 applications, out of which 52 were shortlisted after justifing their reasons for seeking support.

Fashola noted that the beneficiaries were selected from various categories, including those with physical challenges, students, and business owners seeking empowerment.

He emphasized that the organization's goal is to minimize poverty among Muslims in Ogun State.

He said, "We received 85 applications when we rolled out the application form, so we processed, and we streamlined it, we just listed the 53 applicants at the end of the day, and all of them were given the privilege to justify the reason why need the support.

"And looking at the categories of people that applied, we also have a student we give materials for them to resume school; some people ask because they are in businesses and they want to uplift the business, so we consider all these categories. We also have people who don't have husbands, and they want to have something to do, so we came to the rescue with support.

Also speaking, Deputy National Coordinator of the Da'wah Front of Nigeria, Professor Shariffdeen Adewuyi, stated the ceremony was a remarkable day because Zakat has been a usual practice of the organisation.

According to him, the exercise was remarkable because the Amir Zakat Foundation was partnering in the exercise.

He appreciated the Abeokuta chapter for its consistency and for making it possible for another body to partner with the chapter.

He urged the beneficiaries to utilise the items judiciously adding that they should also strive to become donors themselves in the nearest future.

He emphasized that Allah loves those who give and appreciate the blessings of Allah.

He said, "The National Coordinator has directed me to tell them like I mentioned when I was giving my remark to the beneficiaries, we advise them to use all these that they have gotten for the purpose that is meant for and of course rather than being a beneficiary of Zakat, they should also strive to be donors.

"This is possible if they use the product that is given to each individual of them judiciously that is the message of the National Coordinator".

In his own submission, the Chapter Coordinator, Dr Samsudeen Ayanwale also urged the beneficiaries to ensure judicious use of the benefits.

Represented by the Assistant Coordinator, Alhaji Abdul Rahman Maku, the Chapter Coordinator advised that the the items distributed should be used for the purse for which they were sought during the application process.

The Coordinator advised the beneficiaries to make use of it in a way that will attract Allah's blessing so they can also graduate to be a donor of Zakat.

Appreciate the kind gestures of the organisation, one of the beneficiaries, Alabi Fathia, who was given industrial machines, prayed that Allah will continue to uplift the donor; she vows to be a donor of Zakat in the nearest future with the empowerment gotten.

Another beneficiary, Adeyemi Nimot, also urged other beneficiaries to make judicious use of the benefits, adding that it was a poverty alleviation programme for her.
