Former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has described late elderstateman, Chief Christopher Ogunbanjo as a cherished icon of Ogun State and a symbol of the Ogun Standard.
In a statement personally signed in honour of the departed corporate lawyer titled 'Chief Christopher Oladipo Ogunbanjo: Exit of a rare gem at 99", Amosun said the deceased matched his precepts with unusual determination.
The statement read, "I commiserate with the entire Ogunbanjo family on the passing of Baba, Chief Christopher Oladipo Ogunbanjo on Saturday, 7 October, 2023, at the age of 99 years, coming just two months to his centennial birthday.
"Chief Chris Ogunbanjo was a respected elder statesman, a cherished icon of Ogun State, and a symbol of the Ogun Standard who blazed the trail as a renowned corporate lawyer, foremost industrialist, consummate businessman, and philanthropist par excellence.
"As an epitome of hard work and selfless service, Chief Ogunbanjo matched his precepts with unusual determination, thus, establishing Chris Ogunbanjo & Co., and growing it to become a leading international law firm.
"Chief Chris Ogunbanjo also received the prestigious national honours of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) and Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) from the Federal Government in recognition of his selfless service. The Olotu of Ijebuland, the Lerinja of Egbaland, and the Gbadero of Lagos, will be sorely missed.
"It is my prayer that the Almighty God grant him eternal rest, and give all his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the entire Ogunbanjo family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss."
According to Amosun, Chief Ogunbanjo made remarkable impacts in Business, Manufacturing, and Insurance, among others.
He was the Life-Vice President, Lagos Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mines and Agriculture; Life-Vice President, NACCIMA; Patron, Nigerian-American Chamber of Commerce; Patron, Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce; first Chairman of the Nigerian Council for Management Development Education and Training, among others.
