- Ogun government suspends the Oba for six month

- Surrenders to police

The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, has demanded the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of the Olorile of Orile Ifo in Ifo local government Area of Ogun State, Oba Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, for assaulting a 73 year old man, Elder, Arinola Abraham.

The Committee also issued a 72 hour ultimatum for the Ogun State government to remove Oba Ogunjobi as the Olorile of Orile Ifo or risk the CDHR, its constituent units and allied organisation occupying the Oba’s palace.

The Committee, while addressing a press conference through its National Vice President, Comrade Yinka Folarin, on Monday, alleged that Oba Ogunjobi had been known for numerous criminal and nefarious activities including attempted murder and public assaults.

CDHR also called on the Inspector General of Police to investigate the Oba, a former police officer, for the murder of one Morufu Gbadamosi which happened in January and allegedly linked to the Oba.

The IGP was also petitioned to investigate all missing persons in Orile Ifo since the enthronement of Oba Ogunjobi whose reign was described as terror within the community.

It will be recalled that a video footage has gone viral of the Oba assaulting an old man, Elder Areola, for allegedly betraying him over a chieftaincy title in the community.

Elder Areola was publicly ridiculed while he was physically assaulted by the Oba, his driver and one of his chiefs known as Lukosi.

Speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, Elder Areola explained that he has no business with the Oba and has never engaged in any business with him

The victim explained that he had been nursing injuries sustained from a domestic accident for more than a year before the Oba compounded his woes.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State government in conjunction with the Egba traditional council, has suspended the Oba for six months for his uncivil conduct not befitting the status of an Oba.

The suspension which was conveyed in a messaged circulated to the media, also directed that the Oba be stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise on the allegation.

The message reads, "In a bid to ensuring dignity of persons and for the protection of sanctity of our revered traditional institution, the Ogun State Government led by Prince Dapo Abiodun, has placed Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo on six months suspension for his uncivil conduct not befitting the status of an Oba.

"The decision was reached after the Kabiyesi and his victim were invited by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Local Govt and Chieftaincy Affairs for interrogation.

"This became imperative as a result of the reckless utterances and public misconduct of the Kabiyesi as it was evident in the social media and being bandied in the larger public space.

"After the investigation conducted on the matter, the Kabiyesi has been suspended and stripped of the paraphernalia of the stool of Olorile-Ifo pending the determination of his culpability or otherwise on the allegation.

"The foregoing decision was reached by the Ministry in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council in accordance with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs' Law of Ogun State 2021," the message said.

Meanwhile, the Oba has been surrendered to the police for interogation.

He had earlier met with the State officers this morning at the Oke-Mosan government office before he was asked to follow a Deputy Commissioner of Policre in charge of Operation to the police headquarters in Eleweran.
