The University of Ilorin Alumni Association has called on the management of the University withdraw the academic certificate of a former National President of the Association, Dr Wale Fashakin, for parading himself as the national president of the Association.

Speaking during the 2024 Annual General Meeting of the Ogun State chapter, and the 2nd Taoreed Odedele Biennial Lecture, the National President of the Association, Prof. Abdulrazaq Kilani, said soime people have turned the Alumni to an Automated Teller Machine.

According to the President, the academic certificate issued by the University is for both learning and good character, adding that whoever has acted contrary to that is not a good ambassador of the University.

“The problem we have is that some people have no second addresses, the only address they have is the Alumni, that’s the only thing they have, they are impersonating.

“If an Alumni ambassador of a university, anybody that acts contrary to the ethics of the university is a bad ambassador. Ambassadors are recalled globally when you are not acting properly.

“I think the university authority should do something to ensure we invoke the necessary laws of the university, we can withdraw the certificate of our graduates if they are not representing us well.

“All what he’s is doing, he’s just trying to turn the Alumni to an ATM. Even the last zoom meeting he organized, only 12 people attended and after the meeting he made a lot of noise in the newspapers.

“Alumni office is not a family affair, it is not a chieftaincy affair, the constitution only provides for four years, the four years has ended, we have a mandate for another four years, which we are doing our best to fulfill the mandate given to us by our members.

“When you have served your tenure and an interim has served their tenure and you’re still parading yourself as the national president, it is an aberration, it is criminal.

“I don’t see anything wrong in that (withdraw the certificate) if that is what is going to stop this problem of misinformation, University of Ilorin should do that. The certificate before anyone of us is for good character and good learning, if any of us is deficient, that person is not qualified the carry the certificate of the University."
