Contrary to the news making the rounds especially on many online media, the Department of State Services, DSS, has denied having custody of the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigerian, Godwin Emefiele.
The Spokesperson of the Service, Dr Peter Afunaya, in a terse statement in response to inquiries on the whereabouts of Emefiele, said, “Currently, Emefiele is not in with the DSS.”
The embattled CBN Governor who was on Friday suspended by President Tinubu has been on the radar of the secret policy over allegations bothering on terrorism financing, economic sabotage, amongst others.
The embattled CBN Governor also became infamous following his naira redesign policy early in the year.
In a statement announcing the suspension of Emefiele, President Tinubu through the office of the Secretary Government of the Federation (SGF), said the "suspension is as a result of the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy."
Willie Bassey, Director, Information for Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume observed that, "Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.
