Political tension in Ogun East Senatorial District escalated on Wednesday as security operatives blocked the venue of an empowerment programme organised by the senator representing the district, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

The development comes barely 48 hours after the senator was prevented from attending a senatorial stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Governor Dapo Abiodun was reportedly endorsed as a consensus candidate for the district ahead of the 2027 elections.

On Wednesday, heavily armed police officers were deployed to Obanta Hall, the venue of the empowerment programme in Ijebu-Ode, effectively restricting access to the facility.

An Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) was stationed near the entrance, while security personnel in their numbers and vans were positioned around the premises.

The programme, organised under the Gateway Front Foundation, an initiative of Senator Daniel, was reportedly designed to empower about 10,000 beneficiaries across the senatorial district.

Eyewitnesses said participants and organisers were unable to access the venue due to the security blockade.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Boluwatife Babaseyi promised to get back to our reporter.
