Parents of a 14 years old Palestinian prisoner, Ahmad Salayme, released on Tuesday by Israel as part of the truce agreement between Israel and Palestine have expresses fear despite the release of their child.
While the mother revealed that Israeli authorities searched their own six times on Tuesday preparatory to the son release, the father revealed that he received a call on Friday, warning him not to celebrate the release.
The released teenager also revealed that prisoners, including females, were tortured in the prison, adding that he was also warned not to celebrate, amongst other conditions.
“The first day of the war there were a number of beatings, female inmates were beaten,” says 14-year-old Ahmad Salayme said.
“They told me no celebrations, and on the day of my release I’m not allowed to leave my house, raise any signs or banners, use a megaphone,” Ahmad added. “And if I break any of these rules I will be taken back.”
“We are very happy but our happiness is incomplete because we mourn those who are lost, those who are wounded and those who are missing,” he added, referring to the Palestinians in Gaza.
The father of the teenager, Nooman Abu Naim said that he received a call on Friday from someone introducing themselves as an Israeli army captain.
“Make sure that your son is cautious, make sure he doesn’t do anything, make sure you don’t celebrate, make sure you don’t show any enthusiasm,” Abu Naim said he was instructed. “I told him there will be nothing of the sort,” he said.
Abu Naim added that since October 7, life in Israeli prison had become increasingly difficult.
According to him, his son told him that his blankets, dishes, cutlery and even window curtains were taken away.
“The pressure is being exerted on all Palestinian people, not just our youth,” Abu Naim said.
‘Salayme’s mother said the Israeli authorities searched the family’s home six times 'today' in advance of her son’s release from prison and warned them against holding any celebrations whatsoever.
“Tomorrow, only relatives are allowed to come,” she said.
She added that she fears her 14-year-old son could be taken away again “at any moment”.
“I’m constantly worried and afraid because at any moment they might return and take him away.”
Thirty more Palestinian prisoners arrived home to occupied East Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank after their release by Israel.
Earlier, a group of 12 captives, including 10 Israelis arrived in Israel after being handed over by Hamas. It’s the fifth prisoner swap since Friday.
Meanwhile, Israel’s far-right national security minister threatens to topple the country’s coalition government if the war in Gaza is stopped, as discussions between regional security and intelligence chiefs – as well as the head of the CIA – continue in Qatar over a further extension of the truce.
Hamas spokesperson, Osama Hamdan, has also invited Elon Musk to Gaza so he can “see the scale of the massacres”, after the billionaire voiced support for Israel during a visit on Monday.
"We invite Elon Musk, who visited the occupation yesterday, to visit Gaza to see the extent of the crimes committed against our people."
