The Ekiti State House of Assembly has reportedly lost its Speaker, Funminiyi Afuye, Wednesday evening.

Afuye’s demise was announced by Lere Olayinka, a former aide to former Governor of the State, Ayodele Fayose, on his verified facebook timeline.

Olayinka wrote, “RIP. Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly.” He did not give further details.

As at the time of filling this report, HorizonTimes could not confirm the cause of the Speaker’s death, but a source will can not be immediately verified told HorizonTimes that the deceased suffered cardiac arrest around 6pm.

He was on inspection of a bad road at Basiri, Ado-Ekiti with the new Governor on Tuesday.

He also attended an interfaith thanksgiving service at the Government House Ground with the Governor.

HorizonTimes gathered that Afuye died at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital in Ado-Ekiti where he was reportedly rushed in the early hours of Wednesday. 

One of the social media users who commented on the post, Folake Flakkyfaj, revealed that a daughter to the deceased Speaker was billed for her weeding this Saturday.

Others who commented on the post also revealed that the deceased Speaker was on an inspection with the new Governor of the State, ‘Biodun Oyebanji, shortly before he was reported dead.

Oyetoki Wale Oluwatobi wrote, “Unbelievable…a man who went on inspection with the governor today.”

Oluyemi John Akindele also wrote, “Sebi he went on inspection with the Governor today, what may happen (sics) to him? Anyway, rest on…”
