An Oyo State born medical practitioner, Dr Ganiyat Popoola who was kidnapped in December 2023 has regained freedom from her abductors.
Dr Ganiyat was released Wednesday evening alongside her nephew, Mugni Folaranmi who was also kidnapped the same day.
The mother of five who was breastfeeding her last child was kidnapped alongside her husband, a military officer and Mugni at her workplace in Kaduna.
The husband was released in March after ransom was paid in millions, motocycles and others.
"AlhamduliLlah, they have been released less than an hour ago," a source from Iseyin hometown of the Doctor confirmed to HorizonTimes.
The President of NARD, Tope Zenith Osundara, also confirmed the release in a telephone interview with journalists.
“Yes, it is true. It happened today (Wednesday). For now, we have insulated her away from people, we only allow very limited access to her,” Osundara told our correspondent.
When asked how much was paid to secure her freedom, he responded “No ransom was paid at all.”
Dr Popoola started working at the National Eye Center hospital, Kaduna, one of the biggest hospitals in the country, about six years ago.
The hospital which was located at the outskirts of Kaduna city made it easy target for kidnappers.
They were kidnapped at the Staff Quarters of the hospital and demanded for N40m ransom.
