With four games to play before the end of the season, FC Barcelona have clinched their 27th La Liga title after a 4-2 victory over local rivals Espanyol, Sunday night.
Xavi's side made the perfect start to the Derbi Barceloní when Robert Lewandowski fired his side ahead after just 11 minutes after tapping the ball into the net with his left leg following a perfect assist from Alex Balde.
Balde did brilliantly down the left-hand side to get past Oscar Gil before firing in a cross which was met by the Poland international.
Less than 10 minutes later Barcelona had a second with a Balde’es volley into the back of the net, also with his left, after a scoring opportunity was created by Pedri.
Gavi hung up a cross to the back post and Balde was on hand to volley home for his first Barcelona goal and the second of the match.
Five minutes from the half, things went from bad to worse for Espanyol when they conceded a third and second of the night from Lewandowski who latched onto a cross from the right from Raphinha, again, to tap the ball home from close range.
Jules Kounde made it 4-0 for Barcelona less than 10 minutes into the second half, Frenkie De Jong played a brilliant pass over the top and Kounde was there to head home for his first goal for the club.
Espanyol pulled one back 15 minutes from time when Javi Puado intelligently dinked an effort over Marc Andre Ter Stegen and into the back of the net but it was nothing more than a consolation, despite an injury-time goal from Joselu.
It is Barcelona's first league title since 2019.
With Lewandowski’s performance this season, the departure of Lionel Messi and financial issues have resulted in a tumultuous couple of years for the Catalan giants, but his arrival and subsequent goals have led them back to LaLiga glory.
He took his tally for the league season to 21, extending his lead at the top of the goalscoring charts and mirroring his team's dominant display, with Barca holding 70.2 per cent of the possession.
In a similar development, Sergio Busquets who announced on Wednesday he would be leaving Barca at the end of this season after 18 years with the club, capped an emotional week by playing all 90 minutes as his team clinched the title.
Busquets' 720th appearance for Barca ended with a 24th major honour and ninth LaLiga crown after a typically cool display in which he completed 91 per cent of his passes and managed two successful tackles.
Alejandro Balde, the left full back, was a constant menace to the hosts' defence in the first half, giving Gil a terrible time and becoming the youngest player to score and assist in a derby against Espanyol in LaLiga in the 21st century.
The Spain international netted a goal and set one up for Barca for the first time in all competitions, enjoying a great 48th outing for the club by completing 34 of his 37 passes and showing his defensive skills, as no other visiting player managed more interceptions than his two.
