Adekunle Akinlade, the godson of former Govenror Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Friday, finally joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun State.
The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in the 2019 general election, last week dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress in the State.
He had blamed his resignation from the APC on lack of justice by the National Leadership of the Party.
As at the time of filling this report, all is set at the Ogun PDP Secretariat, IBB Boulverd, Magbon, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, to welcome the former member of House of Representatives to the Party.
Akinlade and Adebutu who arrived the Party's Secretariat at about 12.30pm were welcomed by Party faithful amidst jubilation.
Akinlade, it was gathered, is being considered as running mate to the PDP governorship candidate in the State, Ladi Adebutu.
It was further gathered that Akinlade had applied for waivers from the National Working Committee, NWC, to allow him contest the election with Adebutu.
Akinlade is expected lead other footsoldiers of Senator Amosun into the PDP.
Amosun, few days ago, had declared that he won't stop any of his loyalists from defecting to another party, owing to what he described as injustice in the APC, he however warned that nobody should negotiate with his name or his political family.
He also appealed to whoever loves him amonsgt the supporters to stay with him in APC, saying he was committed to Bola Ahmed Tinubu becoming the President.
Those expected to join Akinlade in the PDP include the former member of House of Representative in Obafemi/Owode Federal Constituency, Mukaila Kassim; former Chairman of Ado-Odo Ota Local Government, Rotimi Ramoni; and former Deputy Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Tola Banjo.
Governorship aspirant on the platform of APC at the just concluded primaries, Biyi Otegbeye, is also rumoured to also be on his way out of the APC.
But Otegbeye, in a statement, said he remains in APC and also committed to the presidential aspiration of Tinubu.
It was realibaly gathered that last minutes efforts by some leadership of the Party including the National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu; the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, etc to stop Akinlade's defection plan failed.
Adebutu, during the 2019 election threw his weight behind Akinlade, following the adoption of Late Senator Buruji Kashamu as the candidate of the Party in Ogun State.
The PDP is expected to conceed some tickets, apart from the deputy governorship ticket, to the decampees.
