A brace from Ademola Lookman was all that was needed by the Super Eagles of Nigeria to sink their familiar footballing foes, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, as Nigeria team advanced to the quarter finals at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.
Lookman scored the first goal at the 36th minutes after converting a pass from the African footballer of the Year, victor Osimhen.
Another beautiful assist from Calvin Bassey was converted by the winger at the 90th minutes to seal the fate of the Lions.
Nigeria earlier scored through Semi Ajayi’s rebound after a long press in the opposition’s box, the goal was ruled offside after VAR review by the Moroccan referee, Rédouane Jiyed.
Ademola Lookman was the star of the show, scoring twice as the Super Eagles devoured fierce rivals Cameroon in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) round of 16 game late Saturday.
Osimhen wrestled the ball from Oumar Gonzalez, set Lookman up, and the shot trickled home under Fabrice Ondoa in the 36th minute to give Nigeria their first goal.
Again, Bassey crossed from the left and Lookman met it first time at the near post to slide home at the 90th minute making it 2-0.
Coach Jose Peseiro’s men will now play Angola in the next game on Friday.
