There was a mild drama at the House of Representatives, Monday, as both the Controller General of Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, and his deputy in charge of Medium Security Custodial Center, Kirikiri, Lagos, Michael Anugwa, disagreed over suspension of latter.

Anugwa who appeared in the entourage of Nababa to defend the Service over allegation of bribery in the management of Idris Okuneye, popularly called Bobrisky, said the news of his suspension was a social media report.

"It was a social media report. I wasn’t served a letter,” he said.

But while addressing the lawmakers, the controller-general said Anugwa and others were suspended.

“On suspension, the officers concerned were duly suspended by the board to pave way for investigation.”

On Thursday, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the secretary to Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), had said Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle, deputy controller of corrections in the MSCC, were suspended.

Anugwa is the officer in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos state, where Bobrisky, served his time.

Nababa however insisted that Bobrisky served his tenure of prison saying, "I, hereby, state that Bobrisky has served his tenure. It is actually true."

The joint committee on financial crimes and reformatory institutions is investigating the bribery allegation against the anti-graft agency and the NCoS.

It is unclear why Anugwa, who is said to have been suspended, appeared before the committee in the entourage of Nababa and dressed in his official uniform.
