Over three years after leaving office, the former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has publicly spoken about the 2019 governorship election in the State, saying his preferred candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, won the election but was rigged out.

He however said those who rigged Akinlade in favour of Governor Dapo Abiodun have apologised to him and that he has moved on.

He maintained that he is not in support of the present administration in the State and that Governor Abiodun must be voted out of office for lack of performance.

The Former governor said these after receiving an award from the Abeokuta Club to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the Associations.

Akinlade, the preferred candidate of Senator Amosun, contested on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, after he was denied the same ticket on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC.

“During the last election, thank God, Chief (Olusegun) Osoba is here, I have said it, we won convincingly. They rigged, rigged, and ended up with 19,000.

“Some of them came to apologies to me. I can be mentioning names. We won that election. But I have moved on.

“We did our work, we will continue to do what we have to do. God will be with all of us,” the former Governor said.

Speaking later in an interview with newsmen, Amosun declared that he was not in support of Abiodun’s administration, saying he must be removed.

He also assured his supporters that the next line of action would soon be announced.

“Well, I am happy. When you are in a place and they are telling you that you have done the work of four or five governors altogether. I feel elated. I am happy that they appreciated our little efforts.

“Just wait, very soon, you will hear where we are going next. Clearly, you know my stand, and my stand is my stand. I am not supporting this administration that is there now. He must be removed,” he said.

Senator Amosun while responding to a comment that he did not spread his administration achievements across the state said his land mark projects are present in all the senatorial districts in the state.

Earlier, Chief Osoba had commended Senator Amosun for the infrastructural upgrade of Abeokuta capital city including the ongoing amphitheater at the Alake palace.

The president of Abeokuta club, Chief Tokunbo Odebunmi while speaking said there are pressure on all the infrastructure cited at the state capital hence the need for the state government to always treat the capital city specially.

The commissioning of projects and award ceremony of the Abeokuta club was part of the fiftieth anniversary celebration of the club.
