The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, aguan, arraigned social media influencer and self-styled relationship therapist, Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, popularly known as Blessing CEO, over an alleged N13 million fraud.

The defendant was brought before Justice Yelim Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 of the anti-graft agency.

She was charged on a fresh six-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and retaining proceeds of alleged unlawful activities.

According to the EFCC, the charges stem from petitions submitted by several individuals and organisations, including the Nigeria Cancer Society.

The petitioners alleged that Blessing CEO solicited financial donations from members of the public after claiming on social media that she was battling Stage 4 breast cancer and required funds for medical treatment.

The Commission alleged that investigations later revealed that the medical documents presented in support of the claim were falsified, prompting the filing of criminal charges against her.

The EFCC further alleged that the defendant obtained and retained proceeds amounting to N13 million through the purported misrepresentation.

The fresh arraignment comes barely a day after Blessing CEO was arraigned before Justice R.A. Oshodi of a Lagos State court over a separate alleged N69.1 million fraud case, in which she pleaded not guilty.

At Wednesday's proceedings, the charges were read to the defendant, who also pleaded not guilty.

Following her plea, prosecution counsel urged the court to fix a date for trial, while the defence sought bail on terms to be determined by the court.

Justice Bogoro subsequently adjourned the matter for ruling on the bail application and commencement of trial.
